How to Choose a Nail File
All you need to know for choosing your nail file
There are many nail files on today’s market but not all are equal and you should choose your file depending on what your situation is and the type of care you need to do. All files are not suitable to the care of normal nails. Some could even cause more damage over time.
When choosing a nail file you need to take these factors into consideration:
Thickness of your nail are they fine, medium or thick or do you experience other problems?
Are your nails natural of sculpted, are they acrylic?
What files are available on the market?
Emery board, crystal, metal (usually harder and more agressive), new materials like Diamancel.
Choose your nail file carefully
Thickness of the file, they do come in several thicknesses.
The most common have a coarse side (used to shorten the nail) and a smoother side (to finish and refine the shape of the nail.) You can also find finer grain files to smooth out the tip of the nail or to file away ridges on the surface of the nail.
The different grains are:
Fine, for natural nails that are easily breakable, and to use as a finishing file.
Medium, for natural nails of medium thickness. Ideal for most nails.
Coarse, for thick natural nails, and for sculpted nails.
Extra coarse, a strong file to shape sculpted nails, this grain is ideal for acrylic nails.
