What Our Nails Reveal About Our Health.
Now I am not suggesting that you should look at your nails and avoid a visit to the doctor, far from this, but I can tell you that if you pay close attention to what your nails do or how they look, you can get an indication of possible ailments and perhaps prevent some illness by catching it early.
Nails often reflect the state of our health before we know we have an illness, knowing what the spots on your nails mean can be valuable information
Nails with black streaks:
Nails that display some streaks in the genre “code bar” can be an indication of hormonal changes and imbalance, as in the first stages of pregnancy.
Nails with white spots:
Contrarily to popular belief these spots are not indicative of a lack of calcium, but the symptoms of thyroïd malfunction.
Nail with yellow spots:
Frequently these yellow spots are the indication of excessive use of tobacco products (it is sometimes called the smoker’s spots), but they are also found in people who are taking antibiotics like tetracycline.
Thick and flaky nails:
Sometimes we can see the nail flaking where it attaches to the finger. Indication of psoriasis.
Bulging and grayish nails:
Giving the effect of a watch crystal, often associated with chronic cardio-pulmonary diseases.
Brittle and breakable nails:
Nails that splint and break easily are usually the result of a diet lacking in vitamins A, B or E, but they can also indicate a deficiency in iron or calcium.
Concave nails:
Sometimes referred as “nails in spoon”, can be a sign of chronic anemia or lack of iron, but also an indication of liver problems.
These nail indicators are for information only and not for diagnosis of any ailments. If you experience any of these symptoms you might consider the cause and if the symptoms persist it could be advisable to consult a doctor.
A regular nail care routine can help improve the look and strength of your nails but it can also help you stay healthy.
